
Authorities said that on the morning of January 20, a Johnston County teenager suffered fatal personal injuries in an automobile accident in Kenly.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 17-year-old Christopher Hayden Peedin driving a 1997 Toyota pickup truck east on Hinnant-Edgerton Road around 6:45 a.m. He lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road and into a ditch, overturned and collided with a tree, killing Peedin.
Authorities said that Peedin, a North Johnston High School senior, was on his way to pick up a friend and then head to the school.
Troopers estimated Peedin’s speed to have been between 65 and 70 mph when the crash occurred. The posted speed limit in the area is 55 mph. He also was not wearing a seat belt.
Peedin was the second Johnston County teenager killed in a crash within a span of one week.
On January 14, Kyle Kozlowski, a senior at Clayton High School, died after losing control of his speeding vehicle on Loop Road near Covered Bridge Road east of Clayton.
