I-540 Chase Ends With Head-On Collision

On April 8, a high-speed chase involving Wake County sheriff’s deputies and a suspect driving the wrong way on Interstate 540 ended with several people suffering personal injuries in a head-on collision, according to authorities.

The chase began shortly before 10 p.m. in Wake Forest when deputies attempted to stop Bobby Poole Jr., who was suspected of larceny, authorities say. Deputies chased him after he failed to stop.

Deputies attempted to deploy stop sticks, but Poole still failed to stop.

According to authorities, Poole drove on the wrong side of I-540 before colliding head-on with another vehicle near the Gresham Lake Bridge.

Poole and the occupants of the other vehicle received ambulance transport to WakeMed North. As of April 8, there conditions were not available.

No deputies were involved in the collision.

Authorities say charges are pending against Poole.
