On June 12, a 17-year-old Concord High School student suffered fatal personal injuries in an automobile accident on N.C. 73 near Lake Lynn Road.
According to Trooper O.F. Maready of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Kelly Campbell was a passenger in a 2003 Ford pickup driven by 18-year-old Julia Morris. The truck apparently ran off the road to the right and Morris overcorrected. The truck then overturned and collided with a utility pole.
Campbell died in the accident. Morris received hospital transport with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
Maready said the truck suffered “pretty extensive” damage to the left side and top.
On the day of the accident, Morris and Campbell were returning home from Concord High’s graduation ceremony.
Maready said that the accident’s cause is being investigation and the NCHP has not yet decided if it will file charges.
