Groom Killed In Crash Hours Before Wedding
Police say a man from Raleigh suffered fatal personal injuries in a crash on September 12, less than four hours before he was scheduled to be married.
According to police reports, 28-year-old Chris Raynor was a backseat passenger in a car one of his groomsmen was driving when another vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Westgate road at approximately 7:30 a.m. and collided with their vehicle. Raynor, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and then run over by a third vehicle.
The driver of the car that ran the red light, 52-year-old Asheville resident James Howard Early, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Raynor was scheduled to be married to Raleigh resident Karen Taylor that afternoon.
