Granville Paramedic Dies in Accident

Merle Faucette, an off duty paramedic in Granville County, died in an accident Tuesday morning when his motorcycle was hit head-on by a vehicle traveling on N.C. Highway 96 north of Oxford.

Faucette had left Oak Hill EMS Station 7, after hearing his 91-year-old-mother had suffered a massive heart attack at Duke Hospital.

He was on his way to the hospital, when Grover Barnette, 63, driving a 2008 Ford Focus crossed the center line hitting him head-on.

According to a report of the Highway Patrol, Barnette had fallen asleep while driving. He was transported to a nearby hospital for his injuries.

Faucette was well known, loved and appreciated in his community.
