
A wreck involving a can and a sport utility vehicle on the morning of May 9 in Gastonia left one person dead and seven others with personal injuries.
The crash took place shortly before 11 a.m. at the intersection of West Long Avenue and North Chester Street.
According to Gastonia Police Sgt. Jeff Dobbins, 67-year-old Gastonia resident Conrado Bollas was traveling north on York Street when his van collided with an SUV that was eastbound on Long Avenue at the intersection.
Bollas was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife received air transport to Carolinas Medical Center and was listed in serious condition.
Six occupants of the SUV all received transport to Gaston Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
