On the evening of September 17, a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 421 near the county line for Lee County and Chatham County resulted in one person suffering personal injuries and traffic on the highway being halted.
According to Trooper S.D. Riley of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup apparently sustained severe head trauma and received transport to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. He said the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Riley said the northbound pickup apparently struck a guardrail along the highway, skidded along it, and became airborne.
Riley said the driver was the lone occupant. The driver’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Riley did say the driver was a Fuquay-Varina resident.
