Fourth Victim Of Garner ConAgra Plant Explosion Dies

A fourth victim of the plant explosion at a Slim Jim plant in Garner over the summer has died of the personal injuries he suffered.

According to a November 23 statement from a spokesman for the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill, 55-year-old Curtis Ray Poppe has died. His death came five months after the blast at the Garner ConAgra plant.

According to an obituary posted by a funeral home in Hickory, Poppe’s family greeted friends there on November 22.

U.S. Chemical Safety Board lead investor Don Holmstrom would not confirm that there had been an additional death from the explosion, but he said that four critically burned victims were among the 71 people who required hospital treatment.
