Former Buncombe Sheriff's Lieutenant Killed In ATV Accident

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says that a retired Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant died of the personal injuries he suffered when his ATV was struck by a truck near Marshall on September 3.

Shortly before 4 p.m., 58-year-old Anthony “Tony” Charles Case was exiting his residence on N.C. 208 near the border of North Carolina and Tennessee and did not see the truck before the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck was driven by 64-year-old Hickory resident Larry Johnson.

Case was a veteran of Vietnam and Korea and worked for the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and as a criminal justice instructor at AB Tech.
