Florida Dog Bite Victim Now Works To Prevent Attacks

Each year there are nearly five million people who suffer dog bites. Of those five million, hundreds of thousands require medical attention.

One such attack involved Amber Treat-Hoosier, a woman from Jacksonville, Florida who had spent the last eight years training dogs when one of the dogs turned on her and she became a victim.

Treat-Hoosier says that in November of last year, she was severely bitten on the nose by the dog of a friend, requiring surgery to repair. She said that she turned around and suddenly the dog grabbed a part of her nose, biting it off.

She had to undergo surgery in order to return blood-flow to the portion of the nose that was bitten off.

Now, Treat-Hoosier works to spread awareness of dog attacks and prevent others from being attacked. She notes that one of the most common reasons a bite occurs is a person walking up to a dog and petting it without asking. She says that before petting an animal, one should always check with the owner.
