Father Commits Suicide After Family Dies In NC Van Wreck

On January 9, Brent Bigger was driving his wife and two children in the family van on Pickens Highway in Transylvania County near Rosman in North Carolina. The van ran off the road and into a pond, killing his wife Patricia. He ran from the vehicle to get help from other motorists, though his two children later died in Greenville Children's Hospital from injuries sustained in the wreck, according to North Carolina State Police.

This week, Fox News Carolina reports that Bigger was found dead in the home of a friend having apparently committed suicide. He was surrounded by pictures of his family. The coroner said he died of a combination of prescription drug overdose and carbon monoxide poisoning from the rental car he was driving.

The crash is still under investigation, although Bigger has said he had a migraine before the incident and does not remember driving off of the road. He doesn't remember much of the trip before the accident, and has been found to be truthful after taking a polygraph test.

"With the little physical evidence at the scene and no evidence from the vehicle, obviously no witnesses and with him not being able to recall, we just weren't able to make a positive determination as to why the vehicle left the roadway," authorities said.
