Fatal Crash Claims Huntersville Police Officer

A Huntersville police officer suffered fatal personal injuries in a Catawba County motorcycle accident early on the morning of July 5.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that 43-year-old Mooresville resident Kimberly Sue Nesbitt died in a crash on Lowrance Road about two miles south of the city of Catawba around 6 a.m. She was off-duty at the time.

According to troopers, Nesbitt’s right wheel ran off the road and she overcorrected. She crossed over both lanes, ran into a ditch, and collided with a tree. Speed is not believed to have been a factor in the accident.

Troopers said that Nesbitt was not wearing her seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nesbitt was the lone occupant of her vehicle, which was the only vehicle involved.

Nesbitt had been an employee of the Huntersville Police Department since 2007.
