Electrician Files Suit Against Maritime Company

An electrician from DeWitt County, Texas has filed a personal injury suit in Galveston County, Texas District Court against a maritime company in Houston, Texas for injuries he allegedly sustained while working.

According to Richard Dean Dewitt, his employer, Diamond Offshore Services Company, failed to ensure his safety as he was working on Ocean Clipper, a vessel owned by the company, on April 9. Dewitt filed suit on December 11.

Dewitt did not elaborate on the circumstances leading to the incident, but claims that the defendant was negligent and the vessel was unseaworthy. He also claims Diamond Offshore is in violation of the Jones Act and U.S. general maritime law. 

Due to the incident, Dewitt claims that he has suffered severe and painful back and other bodily injuries. He also claims that he has incurred growing medical and pharmaceutical expenses and that company has refused to cover the costs.
