Driver Killed In I-40 Crash In Durham

On the night of April 12, a driver on eastbound Interstate 40 in Durham suffered fatal personal injuries in a collision between her car and a trailer that was parked on the side of the road, according to police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

The woman was identified by police as 19-year-old Winston-Salem resident Roxsana Jimenez Dimas.

Police say the crash occurred near the exit for N.C. 54 shortly after 10:30 p.m. According to Michael, Dimas was eastbound in a 2007 Chrysler when she apparently swerved in order to avoid a collision with a vehicle parked on the left shoulder. She apparently lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road to the right, where she collided with a steel trailer parked in the grassy shoulder of the road.

Police say Dimas was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash resulted in two of I-40’s eastbound lanes being blocked for nearly three hours.
