Driver Killed, Baby Survives In Rougemont Crash

The driver who suffered fatal personal injuries in a two-vehicle crash early on the morning of May 19 has been identified by the North Carolina Highway Patrol as 28-year-old Rougemont resident Ann Marie Thrash. Her 11-month-old daughter survived the accident.

Thrash died in an accident shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Guess Road near the intersection of New Sharon Church Road.

Thrash’s daughter, who was properly restrained in a car seat, received transport to Duke Hospital as a precaution. However, investigating trooper Joseph Sharlow said she only seemed to have suffered minor scratches.

Sharlow said that Thrash was southbound on Guess Road when she ran off the road to the right after coming out of a curve, overcorrected, ran off the road to the left, jerked back to the right, and lost control of the vehicle, which came to rest sideways in the road.

A second vehicle, which was northbound, struck Thrash’s driver’s side door. The driver, 34-year-old Hurdle Mills resident Michael Stone, received transport to Duke Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Sharlow.
