A driver whose vehicle struck a motorcycle in July, causing the operator to suffer personal injuries, is now faced with a felony charge.
According to an arrest warrant, on October 23, 37-year-old Derrick Eugene Watson was charged with felony serious injury by vehicle. He was already facing charges of driving while impaired and failure to yield.
On July 19, Watson turned his sport utility vehicle in front of a motorcycle driven by 52-year-old Stedman resident Billie Lynn Davis.
The warrant said that Davis suffered two broken bones in one leg, a broken finger, a broken vertebrae, and severe head trauma in the crash.
Arrest documents show that Watson entered a guilty plea to a charge of DWI in 1997 in addition to several other traffic-related violations. He also has a pending charged of not having an operator’s license.
Documents say Watson has fully cooperated with police and turned himself in.
