A man from Roxboro has been charged with DWI and reckless driving in connection to an October 23 crash in which one person died and the driver and two others sustained personal injuries, according to Sgt. Jeff Gordon of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Gordon said that on the day of the incident, 22-year-old Charles Guy Lee was driving on Denny’s Store Road when he lost control of the vehicle near Lonnie Gentry Road at about 1 a.m.
The troopers who responded to the crash cited alcohol and speed as factors.
Troopers said a back seat passenger, 16-year-old Roxboro resident Victoria Elaine Clayton, died in the accident.
Two other back seat passengers, 18-year-old Roxboro resident Tanya Lorena Gomez, 18-year-old Roxboro resident Natalia Munoz, and the front seat passenger, 23-year-old Roxboro resident James Edward Strickland III, suffered injuries in the collision.
Troopers say Strickland was ejected during the collision.
Gordon said the charges filed against Lee could be upgraded after Person County acting District Attorney Jim Long is consulted.
