Customs Dog Bites Child At Dulles

The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol says that a 4-year-old girl suffered personal injuries after one of its dogs bit her during a training exercise at Washington Dulles International Airport.

According to spokeswoman Kelly Ivahnenko, the incident took place at approximately 10:30 a.m. on February 18 at the domestic terminal baggage facility. She said the reason for the dog, a Belgian malinois, attacking the child is not known.

Ivahnenko said that the dog bit the girl on her abdomen. She immediately received medical attention and received hospital transport. Her condition was not known.

According to Ivahnenko, dog bites are uncommon and the agency is making every effort to determine the cause and take appropriate steps to prevent it from occurring again.
