The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that a man from Cullowhee suffered fatal personal injuries on June 25 when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle on U.S. 23 near Waynesville.
According to Trooper J.B. Merrell, 63-year-old Timothy Dale Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene.
Merrell said that shortly after 11:30 a.m., Kelly was traveling west on a 2001 Indian motorcycle when an eastbound 1996 Subaru Forester crossed a raised concrete median and collided head-on with the motorcycle.
According to Merrell, the Subaru’s driver, 58-year-old Geri Patrick, received transport to Haywood Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. He said that the drivers were the lone occupants of each vehicle.
Merrell said that charges against Patrick would be determined after an investigation and that there was no sign that alcohol was a factor.
