Couple Files Suit Against Bakery And Sara Lee For Workplace Injury

A man and his wife have filed a personal injury suit against a bakery and Sara Lee Corporation for a work-related injury.

On April 10, 2008, Ronald Smith was working at Heiner’s Bakery with the pan system when it got jammed and backed up the oven, according to a suit filed in West Virginia’s Cabell Circuit Court on March 4. The suit also names Sara Lee Corporation Engineering Manager Jeff Barrett and 15 unknown individuals as defendants.

The suit alleges that Smith attempted to free the system as instructed, but one or more pans flew up and hit him. He said that he and other employees had repeatedly warned defendants of the safety issue on several occasions.

Smith claims the incident caused him to suffer multiple serious injuries, including a concussion, facial and dental injuries, and back injuries.

The suit alleges that Smith was “intentionally and deliberately” exposed to unsafe working conditions by the defendants.

Smith and his wife, Amelia Smith, seek general and special damages.
