Concrete Slab Crash Costs Contractors $4.7 Million
In Feb. 2007, a tractor trailer drove through a loading area of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, causing a concrete slab to crash 30 feet below.
It caused a tremendous amount of property damage, and the city-country Sports and Exhibition Authority filed a notice of intent to sue in the summer of 2009. The Authority’s insurer, the Travelers Indemnity Co., will receive $1.125 million from contractors including steel fabricator ADF Group, Rafael Vinoly Architects, and contractor Dick Corporation. The $4.78 million settlement was approved Dec. 18.
