According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a woman from Clemmons died of the personal injuries she suffered after her car ran off Interstate 95 near St. Pauls and hit a road sign and two trees.
Sgt. Freddy Johnson Jr. said that 21-year-old Noelle Elizabeth Thorpe was southbound near the 31-mile marker when the 2006 Acura she was driving ran off the highway to the right. He said there were no indications that she attempted to brake before her car struck a sign at a speed of approximately 65 miles per hour.
Johnson said the impact knocked the sign over and caused the vehicle to spin into a tree, impacting it on the driver’s side. That collision caused the vehicle to spin into another tree, which caused the vehicle to overturn.
Johnson said that Thorpe was ejected from the vehicle when it overturned after hitting the second tree. Troopers could not determine if she had been wearing her seat belt.
Thorpe was pronounced dead at the scene.
