On September 30, police upgraded the charges against a Smithfield man in connection to a September 26 crash in which a motorcyclist was killed and another person suffered personal injuries
Around 7 p.m. on the day of the accident, the car of 49-year-old Keith McClain collided with a motorcycle operated by 43-year-old Four Oaks resident Gary Wayne Greenwaldt near the intersection of Brightleaf Boulevard and Crestview Drive in Smithfield.
Greenwaldt and his passenger, 35-year-old Dudley resident Rebecca Ann Tilley, were ejected from the bike. Greenwaldt was pronounced dead at WakeMed in Raleigh and Tilley was listed in critical condition.
McClain was uninjured in the accident.
Police initially charged McClain with DWI and failure to reduce speed after a breathalyzer test revealed his blood-alcohol content to be 0.27, more than three times North Carolina’s legal limit of 0.08.
On September 30, police filed charges of felony death by motor vehicle and felony serious injury by vehicle charges against McClain. He was being held in Johnston County jail under a $60,000 bond.
