Chapel Hill Woman Runs Over Man Near Pittsboro

North Carolina state troopers say that a woman from Chapel Hill caused a man personal injuries when she ran over him north of Pittsboro early on March 10 after they got into an argument and he exited her vehicle.

According to troopers, 23-year-old Margaret Jones argued with two passengers in the back seat of her 2004 Cadillac. She pulled over along Rusell Chapel Road at about 1 a.m. and the men exited the car.

Jones drove off, striking 20-year-old Pittsboro resident Charles Washington Jr. as he was walking next to the road, troopers said.

Washington sustained serious injuries in the incident and received transport to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. No updates on his condition were immediately made available.

Jones received treatment at a hospital in Chatham County for an injury to her hand, troopers said.

Police charged Jones with DWI and failure to reduce speed to avoid striking a pedestrian.
