A 7-year-old girl from Chapel Hill was in recovery at UNC Childrens Hospital on November 1 for the personal injuries she suffered the day before when she was struck by a vehicle.
I’Doniya Brittian had exited a church van at Sykes Street and Gomains Avenue and crossed in front of the vehicle. She was struck by a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Chapel Hill resident Tanisha Lynette Alston, who was passing the stopped van on the left.
Brittian’s father, Heath Brittian, witnessed the accident and said it was an image he may never shake.
Police said Alston was traveling at a rate of about 20 mph at the time of the accident. She was charged with driving without a license.
Doctors said Brittian suffered a compressed vertebrae, but was in good spirits and is expected to fully recover.
