On the morning of March 24, a man from Chadbourn died of the personal injuries he suffered in a high-speed crash on March 23 on Shannon Road in Lumberton, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to First Sgt. Freddy Johnson, 28-year-old Jonathan Lucas Allen received transport to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after the crash and was pronounced dead there the following day.

The report filed by Trooper M.W. Chavis said that the crash occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. near N.C. 71.

The report said that Allen was northbound in a 2008 GMC pickup when he ran of the road to the left during a curve. The truck reentered the road, ran off the road to the right, hit a ditch, hit several pine trees, and finally came to rest in a driveway.

Johnson said that Allen was traveling at an estimated rate of speed of 90 mph when he lost control of the vehicle and 75 mph at the time of impact with the pine trees.
