Cause Unknown In Fatal Clinton Crash
Police have yet to determine the cause of an accident in which one man suffered fatal personal injuries at the intersection of U.S. 421 and U.S. 701 in Clinton on September 7.
According to Clinton Police Chief Mike Brim, 37-year-old Clinton resident Corey Antone Boykin died in the accident, which took place in the westbound lanes of U.S. 421 shortly before 11:30 a.m.
Brim said that Boykin was traveling in a Cadillac driven by 20-year-old Clinton resident James Brunson. The vehicle collided with a Pontiac Firebird driven by 18-year-old Clinton resident Joshua Paul Whaley.
The impact knocked the Cadillac into a guardrail. Boykin was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected.
Brim said that as soon as the cause of the accident is determined, the findings would be turned over to the Sampson County district attorney in order for charges, if any, to be determined.
