Cary Man Dies When SUV Plummetts Off Cliff In California

A 62-year-old man from Cary suffered fatal personal injuries in a sport utility vehicle crash along the Ortega Highway in the mountains overlooking Lake Elsinore on February 21, according to coroner’s officials for Riverside County, California.

Mark Jay Fox was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place around 12:15 p.m. and ended about 600 feet down a cliff.

Witnesses said they saw the SUV leaving the highway. The wreckage was located by a helicopter crew.

Firefighters were eventually able to reach the wrecked vehicle and worked late into the afternoon to pull the driver’s body up the slope via a series of ropes and pulleys.
