Bus Driver Cited in Fatal Wreck

A Chapel Hill Transit driver was charged int he death of a pedestrian. Valerie Hughes of Burlington was hit at the intersection of Mason Farm Road and South Columbia Street last Tuesday. She died the following day at UNC Hospital, the same hospital where she worked in radiology ambulatory care.

 

The driver, James Willie Orr, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. Orr was put on administrative leave without pay, and then fired after an internal investigation took place.
