Boy Dies After Being Struck By SUV While Running To Bus Stop Witness Says Is At Dangerous Curve

On the morning of November 13, a 10-year-old boy from Goldsboro died of the personal injuries he suffered when he was struck by an SUV while running across a street to a school bus stop.

According to North Carolina State Troopers, Dakota Medlin was struck shortly before 7 a.m. by a Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by 32-year-old Four Oaks resident Wendy Jones as he was running across Stevens Mill Road, approximately 6.5 miles outside Goldsboro.

Medlin received transport to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to Troopers, there was no action Jones could have taken to avoid striking Medlin and no charges are to be filed.

Witnesses say that Medlin ran across a front yard and into the road without looking first.

According to homeowner Teddy Price, Medlin’s father drops him off at his house before going to work early in the morning. He says the bus stop, which Medlin had been using for two years, is in a dangerous curve.

Troopers initially believed Medlin had spent the night at the home of a friend and gone to a different bus stop than his usual one.
