A Bertie County sheriff's deputy who spent hours working after the savage storms that swept North Carolina has suffered fatal personal injuries along with his toddler son in a watercraft accident on the Cashie River.
In an April 25 statement, Chief Deputy Greg Atkins said that 30-year-old Kenneth Cobb and his 2-year-old son David were found dead in their life jackets in the water at about 10:30 p.m. on April 24 near Windsor.
According to officials, Cobb's wife, Katrina Cobb, received transport to Pitt County Memorial Hospital with a severe head injury. Atkins said she was located still on the watercraft involved in the accident. She used a cell phone to call emergency workers to report the accident at about 10 p.m.
Officials say they believe the watercraft to have struck an object in the water.
