At Least One Dead, Two Injured In Fiery Crash Near N.C.-S.C. State Line

At least one person suffered fatal personal injuries in an accident on Interstate 77 on August 16 near the state line for North and South Carolina in which a fuel tanker crashed and caught fire, also resulting in the interstate being shut down for several hours.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Billy Elder, the driver of the tractor trailer in question was killed and two women in a car that collided with the truck received transport to a local hospital to undergo treatment. None of the people involved’s identities were immediately made available.

Despite the truck traveling in the southbound lanes, both sides of the ride were closed. The northbound lanes were reopened after the fire was extinguished and southbound lanes were reopened later that night.
