Anonymous Tip Helps Sheriff Identify Owner Of Dog That Bit 5-Year-Old

Winneshiek County, Iowa Sheriff Lee Bohr said that the department was able to identify the dog that attacked a 5-year-old girl, causing her personal injuries, thanks to an anonymous tip. The incident took place in Hesper Township, Iowa.

According to Bohr, charges against the owner are pending. The dog’s rabies vaccinations were not up-to-date, so it was sent to a 10-day confinement period in order to determine whether or not it had the disease. Bohr says the owner has been cooperative.

Winneshiek County has no leash law, but Bohr said that dog owners should be responsible and ensure that their dogs have been vaccinated.

Bohr said that any dog bite incidents should be reported in a “timely manner,” and law enforcement works with the Board of Health when they occur. If a dog bites someone, the owners can be charged.
