Amtrak Train Hits Vehicle In Fayetteville

Police say that on the night of November 1, an Amtrak train collided with a passenger vehicle in downtown Fayetteville, resulting in the driver being hospitalized with personal injuries.

Police said the collision occurred shortly after 9 p.m. at Winslow Street and West Russell Street. The driver of the vehicle that was struck’s identity was not immediately made available. The driver received transport to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Officials continued to work as of 10 p.m. the night of the crash to peel wreckage from the grill of the train, which was blocking downtown traffic.

The crash remains under investigation.
