Accident on Interstate 40 Claimed Teenager's Life

Marcus Xavier Bridges, 19, was charged with felony hit and run, misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and unsafe lane change after causing an accident that killed one and injured two.

Bridges was traveling on Interstate 440 on Saturday afternoon, when attempted to merge into the left lane of I-40 East occupied by a Chevrolet, driven by Emily McKenzie, 23. McKenzie swerved to the right to avoid impact with him and lost control of her vehicle.

McKenzie's vehicle crossed two lanes of traffic, hitting a tree on the right shoulder of the road.

McKenzie and a passenger Donella McKenzie, 49, were transported to WakeMed. A second passenger, Morgan McKenzie, 17, died of her injuries.

Bridges left the scene of the accident, without ever stopping. Officers were able to locate and arrest him.
