 A Head-On Collision Near Granite Falls

There was a head-on collision Tuesday morning in Southeastern Caldwell County.

Tammy C. Chapman, 38, of Morganton was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center and listed in critical condition.

A motorist following Chapman called & reported a potentially impaired driver

because the Dodge pick-up being driven by Chapman was weaving across both lanes of traffic.

N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper C.R. Mangum was dispatched, but before he arrived Chapman’s truck crashed into a pick-up truck driven by Becky Helton of Hickory. Helton was also transported to Frye  Regional Medical Center for injuries she sustained.

Chapman traveled left of center & hit the Chevrolet truck driven by Helton head-on.

According to the report, speed was not an issue. It did appear Chapman may have been impaired on some type of prescription medicine.

Chapman was charged with driving while impaired, driving while license was revoked, left of center and reckless driving.
