75-Year-Old Killed In Fiery Tractor-Trailer Crash On I-40
A man who died of the personal injuries he suffered in a fiery crash on Interstate 40 has been identified by police as 75-year-old Austin Ausby Wrenn.
According to Raleigh police, Warren died in the April 27 accident in which he collided with a guard rail on I-40 near Gorman Street, causing the tractor-trailer he was driving to catch fire.
According to witnesses to the single-vehicle crash, Wren may have swerved in an attempt to avoid slow-moving traffic in front of him.
The wreck report says that the vehicle was traveling at 40 mph when the impact occurred and left tire impressions 418 feet long.
Thick black smoke emerged from the flames and could be seen for miles.
