17-Month-Old Severely Injured By Pit Bull

A 17-month-old child in Redondo Beach, California required hospitalization for the severe personal injuries he suffered when he was attacked by a pit bull. Paramedics responding to the dog bite incident found bite wounds on the boy’s mouth, eyes, and forehead.

The dog was taken into the custody of animal control, which placed it in quarantine at the animal shelter in Carson, California after the attack.

The dog was a family pet up until the incident. The attack occurred at the family’s home in Redondo Beach.

According to Sgt. Phil Keenan of the Redondo Beach Police Dept., the boy and the pit bull were in the living room when the child each touched or grabbed the dog’s tail. The dog reacted by turning around and attacking the child.

The dog latched onto the child’s face, threw him to the ground, and continued mauling him.

Keenan said the child’s mother was able to separate the dog and the child before calling 911.

The child suffered cuts and lacerations in the attack and was fortunate to not lose an eye.
