13 Injured In Amtrak Crash Between Charlotte And Raleigh

An Amtrak commuter train traveling between Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, derailed last week, resulting in 13 injured passengers and an NC train accident investigation.

The North Carolina owned train struck a crossing last Thursday morning in the town of Mebane, North Carolina, though it is not yet clear what caused the train accident to take place. Witnesses who were at the scene of the Mebane train wreck said that the train crossing gates were working properly and flashing at the time of the NC train accident. A spokeswoman for the N.C. Rail Division said that the accident is under investigation.

The 13 passengers received minor injuries, some of which were treated at the scene and some of which were treated at local North Carolina hospitals. As of Wednesday, train passengers were being bussed around the accident scene and rail service in the area was still disrupted.
