12 Injured In Ceiling Collapse At Church Near Hickory

A dozen people suffered personal injuries during worship services at a church near Hickory when the church’s ceiling fell.

According to reports from multiple media outlets, around noon on June 13, a portion of the ceiling fell at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Hickory Police Lt. Bryan Adams said that approximately 200 people were in attendance at the church at the time of the incident. Some of the ceiling tiles in the back of the church fell.

Twelve people received transport to hospitals in the area. The church’s pastor, Rev. Antonio Logan, said that the majority of the injuries wear head wounds and cuts.

The cause of the 52-year-old building’s ceiling collapse remains under investigation.
